A very rare pre Civil War variety from California Fractional Gold maker Robert B. Grey & Co. This specimen is beautiful and displays original Khaki Golden surfaces.
What makes this coin special is the crude LIBE on the Coronet of the Liberty. Interesting it seems the jeweler wanted to put the full LIBERTY in the design, but stopped at LIBE once it became obvious the whole word wouldn’t fit.
Mintage Unknown- with a rarity rating of HR 6 that estimates 13-18 known in all conditions.
